When You Are Old

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

By W. B. Yeats

Strangers In The Night

And we end with the blue eyed crooner, who sets hearts aflutter and I do not think I need to say anything more than, “Ladies and gentlemen, Mr Frank Sinatra!

Strangers in the night
Exchanging glances
Wondering in the night
What were the chances
We'd be sharing love
Before the night was through

Something in your eyes
Was so inviting
Something in your eyes
Was so exciting
Something in my heart
Told me I must have you

Strangers in the night
Two lonely people
We were strangers in the night
Up to the moment when we said our first hello
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away
A warm embracing dance away

And ever since that night
We've been together
Lovers at first sight
In love forever
It turned out so right
For strangers in the night

Love was just a glance away
A warm embracing dance away

Ever since that night
We've been together
Lovers at first sight
In love forever
It turned out so right
For strangers in the night

Love Unexpressed

The sweetest notes among the human heart-strings are dull with rust;
The sweetest chords, adjusted by the angels, are clogged with dust;
We pipe and pipe again our dreary music upon the self-same strains,
While sounds of crime, and fear, and desolation, come back in sad refrains.

On through the world we go, an army marching with listening ears,
Each longing, sighing, for the heavenly music he never hears;
Each longing, sighing, for a word of comfort, a word of tender praise,
A word of love, to cheer the endless journey of earth's hard, busy days.

They love us, and we know it; this suffices for reason's share.
Why should they pause to give that love expression with gentle care?
Why should they pause? But still our hearts are aching with all the gnawing pain
Of hungry love that longs to hear the music, and longs and longs in vain.

We love them, and they know it; if we falter, with fingers numb,
Among the unused strings of love's expression, the notes are dumb.
We shrink within ourselves in voiceless sorrow, leaving the words unsaid,
And, side by side with those we love the dearest, in silence on we tread.

Thus on we tread, and thus each heart in silence its fate fulfils,
Waiting and hoping for the heavenly music beyond the distant hills.
The only difference of the love in heaven from love on earth below Is:
Here we love and know not how to tell it, and there we all shall know.

The Way You Look Tonight

Time flies I always say, the month dedicated to love, romance and relationship has come to an almost conclusion. It was great to share some of my favourite ballets, although the list is endless. I think each song that touches the heart has a beautiful moment attached to it and there is no way in hell one can actually capture all the moments in life in matter of 28 days! Anyway, as I come to the finale I thought that I cannot ever complete my list without mentioning one of my favourite vocalists of all time. Mr Tony Bennett will always remain the ultimate singer as far as I am concerned and this song is just one of the songs that features as my all time favourite and I could not ignore its inclusion. 27 down, 1 to go!

Someday when I'm awfully low
When the world is cold
I will feel a glow
Just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight

O but you're lovely
With your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft
There is nothing for me to love you
Just the way you look tonight

With each word, your tenderness grows
Tearing my fear apart
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose
Touches my foolish heart

Lovely never never change
Keep that breathless change
Won't you please arrange it
Cause I, I love you
Just the way you look tonight

Just the way you look tonight

When We Two Parted

When we two parted
In silence and tears,
Half broken-hearted
To sever for years,
Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
Colder thy kiss;
Truly that hour foretold
Sorrow to this.

The dew of the morning
Sunk chill on my brow—
It felt like the warning
Of what I feel now.
Thy vows are all broken,
And light is thy fame;
I hear thy name spoken,
And share in its shame.

They name thee before me,
A knell to mine ear;
A shudder comes o'er me—
Why wert thou so dear?
They know not I knew thee,
Who knew thee too well:—
Long, long shall I rue thee,
Too deeply to tell.

In secret we met—
In silence I grieve
That thy heart could forget,
Thy spirit deceive.
If I should meet thee
After long years,
How should I greet thee?—
With silence and tears.

By George Gordon, Lord Byron

Hopelessly Devoted To You

Grease was a phenomenon and John Travolta and Olivia Newton John became the sweethearts for generations to come. Olivia Newton John the original Australian beauty has the most beautiful voice and this song from Grease is one of my favourite ballets!

Guess mine is not the first heart broken,
My eyes are not the first to cry
I'm not the first to know,
There's just no gettin' over you

I'm just a fool who's willing
To sit around and wait for you
But baby can't you see,
There's nothin' else for me to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you

But now there's nowhere to hide,
Since you pushed my love aside
I'm not in my head,
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you,

My head is saying "fool, forget him",
My heart is saying "don't let go"
Hold on to the end,
That's what I intend to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you

But now there's nowhere to hide,
Since you pushed my love aside
I'm not in my head,
Hopelessly devoted to you

The Night Has a Thousand Eyes

The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet the light of the bright world dies
With the dying sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,
And the heart but one;
Yet the light of a whole life dies
When love is done.

Crazy For You

I think Madonna is like a phoenix, her image changes with each song and each year and she manages to look awesome and has aged so gracefully. Her transformation from punk star – Marilyn wannabe – style icon – controversy personified – doting mum (have to be Brit here) to countless other titles makes Madonna truly an Icon. And the lady can sing; granted she does not have the best vocal range, but she knows how to grab a fan and anyone addicted to her cannot really fall out of her trance. Actually to write things for Madonna sound really stupid, because Madonna is beyond all clichés. She has sung so many beautiful ballets that I think I can just make another collage of her ballets alone. But this song is one of my all time favourites and it had to appear on my Blog.

Swaying room as the music starts
Strangers making the most of the dark
Two by two their bodies become one

I see you through the smokey air
Can't you feel the weight of my stare
You're so close but still a world away
What I'm dying to say, is that

I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new, you'll feel it in my kiss
I'm crazy for you, crazy for you

Trying hard to control my heart
I walk over to where you are
Eye to eye we need no words at all

Slowly now we begin to move
Every breath I'm deeper into you
Soon we two are standing still in time
If you read my mind, you'll see

I'm crazy for you
Touch me once and you'll know it's true
I never wanted anyone like this
It's all brand new, you'll feel it in my kiss
I'm crazy for you, crazy for you

It's all brand new, I'm crazy for you
And you know it's true
I'm crazy, crazy for you

To ————

Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory.—
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.—

Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
Are heap'd for the beloved's bed—
And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
Love itself shall slumber on.

By Percy Bysshe Shelley

Could It Be Magic?

Barry Manilow has sung some beautiful ballets. However, this particular original Barry Manilow Classic became my favourite with "Take That" covering it. Robbie Williams did an excellent job in lead and the lyrics are awesome.

Spirit move me every time I'm near you,
Whirling like a cyclone in my mind.
Sweet Melissa, angel of my lifetime,
Answer to all answers I can find.
Baby I love you, come, come, come into my arms,
Let me know the wonder of all of you,
Baby I want you, now, now,
Now and hold on fast, could this be the magic at last.
Lady take me high upon a hillside,
High up where the stallion meets the sun.
I could love you, build my world around you,
Never leave you 'til my life is done.
Baby I love you, come, come, come into my arms,
Let me know the wonder of all of you,
Baby I want you, now, now,
Now and hold on fast, could this be the magic at last.
Could it be magic.

The Going

Why did you give no hint that night
That quickly after the morrow's dawn,
And calmly, as if indifferent quite,
You would close your term here, up and be gone
Where I could not follow
With wing of swallow
To gain one glimpse of you ever anon!

Never to bid good-bye
Or lip me the softest call,
Or utter a wish for a word, while I
Saw morning harden upon the wall,
Unmoved, unknowing
That your great going
Had place that moment, and altered all.

Why do you make me leave the house
And think for a breath it is you I see
At the end of the alley of bending boughs
Where so often at dusk you used to be;
Till in darkening dankness
The yawning blankness
Of the perspective sickens me!

You were she who abode
By those red-veined rocks far West,
You were the swan-necked one who rode
Along the beetling Beeny Crest,
And, reining nigh me,
Would muse and eye me,
While Life unrolled us its very best.

Why, then, latterly did we not speak,
Did we not think of those days long dead,
And ere your vanishing strive to seek
That time's renewal? We might have said,
"In this bright spring weather
We'll visit together
Those places that once we visited."

Well, well! All's past amend,
Unchangeable. It must go.
I seem but a dead man held on end
To sink down soon. . . . O you could not know
That such swift fleeing
No soul foreseeing—
Not even I—would undo me so!

Vision Of Love

1990 – Best New Artist – A magnificent Diva hit the screen, with her unbelievable octave range and baffled the world with her high notes, which I doubt anyone can imitate flawlessly. "Vision Of Love" made me fall in love with Mariah Carey and though she gave many ballets later in her career, this one holds a special place in my heart.

Treated me kind
Sweet destiny
Carried me through desperation
To the one that was waiting for me
It took so long
Still I believed
Somehow the one that I needed
Would find me eventually

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me

Prayed through the nights
Felt so alone
Suffered from alienation
Carried the weight on my own
Had to be strong

So I believed
And now I know I’ve succeeded
In finding the place I conceived

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given me

I’ve realized a dream
And I visualized
The love that came to be
Feel so alive
I’m so thankful that I’ve received
The answer that heaven has sent down to me

You treated me kind
Sweet destiny
And I’ll be eternally grateful
Holding you so close to me
Prayed through the nights
So faithfully
Knowing the one that I needed
Would find me eventually

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you turned out to be

Love's Secret

Never seek to tell thy love,
Love that never told can be;
For the gentle wind doth move
Silently, invisibly.

I told my love, I told my love,
I told her all my heart,
Trembling, cold, in ghastly fears,
Ah! she did depart!

Soon after she was gone from me
A traveller came by,
Silently, invisibly,
He took her with a sigh.

By William Blake

Lost In Your Eyes

I just love this song; I think I have been singing this song ever since Debbie Gibson hit the music screen. It is a pity that she just faded away, because I really loved her. This song also carries a deep emotional connection, because to me nothing is sexier in a human being than the eyes! My darling Jöy always said “Eyes are reflections of the soul”.

To all the beautiful eyes in which I have lost myself – well, three is still a huge number for a person like me!

I get lost, in your eyes
And I feel my spirits rise
And soar like the wind
Is it love that I am in?
I get weak in a glance
Isn't this what's called romance?
And that's what I know
Cause when I'm lost
I can't let go

I don't mind
Not knowing what I'm headed for
You can take me to the skies
It's like being lost in heaven
When (and) I'm lost in your eyes

I just felt
Don't know why
Something is there
We can't deny
Ooh, when I first knew
Was when I first looked at you
And if I
Can't find my way
If salvation
Seems miles away
Oh, I'll be found
When I'm lost in your eyes

I don't mind
Not knowing what I'm headed for
You can take me to the skies
It's like being lost in heaven
When (and) I'm lost in your eyes

I get weak in a glance
Isn't this what's called romance
Oh, I'll be found
When I am lost
In your eyes.

I Have Loved Flowers That Fade

I have loved flowers that fade,
Within whose magic tents
Rich hues have marriage made
With sweet unmemoried scents:
A honeymoon delight—
A joy of love at sight,
That ages in an hour—
My song be like a flower!

I have loved airs that die
Before their charm is writ
Along a liquid sky
Trembling to welcome it.
Notes, that with pulse of fire
Proclaim the spirit's desire,
Then die, and are nowhere—
My song be like an air!

Die, song, die like a breath,
And wither as a bloom;
Fear not a flowery death,
Dread not an airy tomb!
Fly with delight, fly hence!
'Twas thine love's tender sense
To feast; now on thy bier
Beauty shall shed a tear.

By Robert Bridges

I Will Always Love You

"The Bodyguard" was in my opinion one of the best soundtracks in history of soundtracks. Whitney Houston gave arguably more number ones from this soundtrack than most of her other albums. She covered classics like "I’m Every Woman" by Chaka Khan and this next song, which was originally rendered by Dolly Parton and this song became immortal with Whitney’s vocal and I think one of the most beautiful love songs ever. I dedicate this song to someone I will always love and cherish till I die…

Dear R,
If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you ev'ry step of the way
And I will always love you
I will always love you
You
My darling, ooh

Bittersweet memories
That is all I'm taking with me
So goodbye--please don't cry
We both know I'm not what you, you need

And I will always love you
I will always love you

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of
And I wish you joy and happiness
But, above all this, I wish you love

And I will always love you
I will always love you
I will always love you
I will always love you
I will always love you
I, I will always love you

You
Darling, I love you
Ooh, I'll always
I will always love you

Who Ever Loved, That Loved Not at First Sight?

It lies not in our power to love or hate,
For will in us is overruled by fate.
When two are stripped, long ere the course begin,
We wish that one should love, the other win;
And one especially do we affect
Of two gold ingots, like in each respect:
The reason no man knows, let it suffice,
What we behold is censured by our eyes.
Where both deliberate, the love is slight:
Who ever loved, that loved not at first sight?

By Christopher Marlowe

Anything For You

Gloria Estefan with this song makes my list of love songs, because I think it is not that easy to move on and sometimes, despite all the hurt and pain, one finds that the hardest thing to do is say Goodbye! Even now, this song holds true for one individual and I sincerely do anything for that one.

Anything for you
Though you're not here
Since you said we're through
It seems like years
Time keeps draggin' on and on
And forever's been and gone
Still I can't figure what went wrong

I'd still do anything for you
I'll play your game
You hurt me through and through
But you can have your way
I can pretend each time I see you
That I don't care and I don't need you
And, though you'll never see me cryin'
You know, inside, I feel like dying

And I'd do anything for you
In spite of it all
I've learned so much from you
You made me strong
But don't you ever think that I don't love you
That, for one minute, I forgot you
But, sometimes, things don't work out right
And you just have to say goodbye

I hope you find someone to please you
Someone who'll care and never leave you
But, if that someone ever hurts you
You just might need a friend to turn to

And I'd do anything for you
I'll give you up
If that's what I should do
To make you happy

Don't you ever think that I don't love you
That, for one minute, I forgot you
But, sometimes, things don't work out right
And you just have to say goodbye

Don't wanna say goodbye

Wondrous Moment

The wondrous moment of our meeting . . .
I well remember you appear
Before me like a vision fleeting,
A beauty's angel pure and clear.

In hopeless ennui surrounding
The worldly bustle, to my ear
For long your tender voice kept sounding,
For long in dreams came features dear.

Time passed. Unruly storms confounded
Old dreams, and I from year to year
Forgot how tender you had sounded,
Your heavenly features once so dear.

My backwoods days dragged slow and quiet—
Dull fence around, dark vault above—
Devoid of God and uninspired,
Devoid of tears, of fire, of love.

Sleep from my soul began retreating,
And here you once again appear
Before me like a vision fleeting,
A beauty's angel pure and clear.

In ecstasy the heart is beating,
Old joys for it anew revive;
Inspired and God-filled, it is greeting
The fire, and tears, and love alive.

By Alexander Pushkin

I'll Never Love This Way Again

I am very old fashioned when it comes to love. I am actually amazed and even a little jealous of people who fall in and out of love with such ease. If only I could do that, I guess I won’t be happy but I definitely would be escaping to the illusion of happiness. But I can’t! When love ends, no other love is quite the same and to claim you love someone just the same is so false. In that vein this song by Dionne Warwick is one of my favourites.

You looked inside my fantasies
And made each one come true,
Something no one else
Had ever found a way to do.
I've kept the memories one by one,
Since you took me in;
And I know I'll never love this way again.

I know I'll never love this way again,
So I keep holdin' on before the good is gone.
I know I'll never love this way again,
Hold on, hold on, hold on.

A fool will lose tomorrow
Reaching back for yesterday;
I won't turn my head in sorrow
If you should go away.
I'll stand here and remember
Just how good it's been,
And I know I'll never love this way again

To His Love

Come away, come, sweet love,
The golden morning breaks,
All the earth, all the air
Of love and pleasure speaks,
Teach thine arms then to embrace,
And sweet rosy lips to kiss,
And mix our souls in mutual bliss.
Eyes were made for beauty's grace,
Viewing, rueing love's long pain,
Procur'd by beauty's rude disdain.

Come away, come, sweet love,
The golden morning wastes,
While the sun from his sphere
His fiery arrows casts:
Making all the shadows fly,
Playing, staying in the grove,
To entertain the stealth of love,
Thither, sweet love, let us hie,
Flying, dying, in desire,
Wing'd with sweet hopes and heav'nly fire.

Come away, come, sweet love,
Do not in vain adorn
Beauty's grace that should rise
Like to the naked morn:
Lilies on the river's side,
And fair Cyprian flowers new blown,
Desire no beauties but their own,
Ornament is nurse of pride,
Pleasure, measure, love's delight,
Haste then, sweet love, our wished flight.

I Could Fall In Love

Selena will always be one of my favourite singers and her untimely demise was a great shock. However, her songs and her legacy will always retain in my life and her fans. I fell in love with Selena with this song and I think it is one of the best love songs ever.

I could lose my heart tonight
If you don't turn and walk away
'Cause the way I feel I might
Lose control and let you stay

'Cause I could take in my arms
And never let go

I could fall in love with you
I could fall in love with you

I can only wonder how
Touching you would make me feel
But if I take that chance right now
Tomorrow will you want me still

So I should keep this to myself
And never let you know

I could fall in love with you
I could fall in love with you

And I know it's not right
And I guess I should try to do what I should do
But I could fall in love, fall in love with you
I could fall in love with you

Siempre estoy sonando en ti
Besando mis labios, acariciando mi piel
Abrazandome con ansias locas
Imaginando que me amas
Como yo podia amar a ti.

So I should keep this to myself
And never let you know

I could fall in love with you
I could fall in love with you

I could fall in love, I could fall in love
With you...

To His Coy Love

I pray thee, leave, love me no more,
Call home the heart you gave me!
I but in vain that saint adore
That can but will not save me.
These poor half-kisses kill me quite--
Was ever man thus servèd?
Amidst an ocean of delight
For pleasure to be starvèd?
Show me no more those snowy breasts
With azure riverets branchèd,
Where, whilst mine eye with plenty feasts,
Yet is my thirst not stanchèd;
O Tantalus, thy pains ne'er tell!
By me thou art prevented:
'Tis nothing to be plagued in Hell,
But thus in Heaven tormented.
Clip me no more in those dear arms,
Nor thy life's comfort call me,
O these are but too powerful charms,
And do but more enthral me!
But see how patient I am grown
In all this coil about thee:
Come, nice thing, let thy heart alone,
I cannot live without thee!

By Michael Drayton

Blue Eyes

This song has a very emotional attachment. I think all there is to know about any soul is always reflected in the eyes. My darling angel Jöy used to sing this song a lot to his love; a jewel of a human-being and coincidentally, my first love had blue eyes, so this song is dedicated to the Blue Eyes! One of my favourite Elton John songs!

Blue eyes baby's got blue eyes
Like a deep blue sea
On a blue blue day
Blue eyes baby's got blue eyes
When the morning comes
I'll be far away
And I say

Blue eyes holding back the tears
Holding back the pain
Baby's got blue eyes
And she's alone again

Blue eyes baby's got blue eyes
Like a clear blue sky
Watching over me
Blue eyes I love blue eyes
When I'm by her side
Where I long to be
I will see

Blue eyes laughing in the sun
Laughing in the rain
Baby's got blue eyes
And I am home, and I am home again

The Lost Thrill

I grow so weary, someway, of all things
That love and loving have vouchsafed to me,
Since now all dreamed-of sweets of ecstasy
Am I possessed of: The caress that clings—
The lips that mix with mine with murmurings
No language may interpret, and the free,
Unfettered brood of kisses, hungrily
Feasting in swarms on honeyed blossomings
Of passion's fullest flower—For yet I miss
The essence that alone makes love divine—
The subtle flavoring no tang of this
Weak wine of melody may here define:—
A something found and lost in the first kiss
A lover ever poured through lips of mine.

By James Whitcomb Riley

My Endless Love

Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross brought this song to limelight. Later it was covered by numerous artistes and is arguably one of the most loved love songs.

My love,
There’s only you in my life
The only thing that’s bright

My first love,
You’re every breath that I take
You’re every step I make

And I
I want to share
All my love with you
No one else will do...

And your eyes
Your eyes, your eyes
They tell me how much you care
Ooh yes, you will always be
My endless love

Two hearts,
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives have just begun

Forever
I’ll hold you close in my arms
I can’t resist your charms

And love
Oh, love
I’ll be a fool
For you,
I’m sure
You know I don’t mind
Oh, you know I don’t mind

’cause you,
You mean the world to me
Oh
I know
I know
I’ve found in you
My endless love

Ooh and love
Oh, love
I’ll be that fool
For you,
I’m sure
You know I don’t mind
Oh you know-
I don’t mind

And, yes
You’ll be the only one
’cause no one can deny
This love I have inside
And I’ll give it all to you
My love
My love, my love
My endless love

The Blessed Damozel

The blessed damozel lean'd out
From the gold bar of Heaven;
Her eyes were deeper than the depth
Of waters still'd at even;
She had three lilies in her hand,
And the stars in her hair were seven.

Her robe, ungirt from clasp to hem,
No wrought flowers did adorn,
But a white rose of Mary's gift,
For service meetly worn;
Her hair that lay along her back
Was yellow like ripe corn.

Her seem'd she scarce had been a day
One of God's choristers;
The wonder was not yet quite gone
From that still look of hers;
Albeit, to them she left, her day
Had counted as ten years.

(To one, it is ten years of years.
. . . Yet now, and in this place,
Surely she lean'd o'er me—her hair
Fell all about my face . . .
Nothing: the autumn-fall of leaves.
The whole year sets apace.)

It was the rampart of God's house
That she was standing on;
By God built over the sheer depth
The which is Space begun;
So high, that looking downward thence
She scarce could see the sun.

It lies in Heaven, across the flood
Of ether, as a bridge.
Beneath, the tides of day and night
With flame and darkness ridge
The void, as low as where this earth
Spins like a fretful midge.

Around her, lovers, newly met
'Mid deathless love's acclaims,
Spoke evermore among themselves
Their heart-remember'd names;
And the souls mounting up to God
Went by her like thin flames.

And still she bow'd herself and stoop'd
Out of the circling charm;
Until her bosom must have made
The bar she lean'd on warm,
And the lilies lay as if asleep
Along her bended arm.

From the fix'd place of Heaven she saw
Time like a pulse shake fierce
Through all the worlds. Her gaze still strove
Within the gulf to pierce
Its path; and now she spoke as when
The stars sang in their spheres.

The sun was gone now; the curl'd moon
Was like a little feather
Fluttering far down the gulf; and now
She spoke through the still weather.
Her voice was like the voice the stars
Had when they sang together.

(Ah sweet! Even now, in that bird's song,
Strove not her accents there,
Fain to be hearken'd? When those bells
Possess'd the mid-day air,
Strove not her steps to reach my side
Down all the echoing stair?)

"I wish that he were come to me,
For he will come," she said.
"Have I not pray'd in Heaven?—on Earth,
Lord, Lord, has he not pray'd?
Are not two prayers a perfect strength?
And shall I feel afraid?

"When round his head the aureole clings,
And he is cloth'd in white,
I'll take his hand and go with him
To the deep wells of light;
As unto a stream we will step down,
And bathe there in God's sight.

"We two will stand beside that shrine,
Occult, withheld, untrod,
Whose lamps are stirr'd continually
With prayer sent up to God;
And see our old prayers, granted, melt
Each like a little cloud.

"We two will lie i' the shadow of
That living mystic tree
Within whose secret growth the Dove
Is sometimes felt to be,
While every leaf that His plumes touch
Saith His Name audibly.

"And I myself will teach to him,
I myself, lying so,
The songs I sing here; which his voice
Shall pause in, hush'd and slow,
And find some knowledge at each pause,
Or some new thing to know."

(Alas! We two, we two, thou say'st!
Yea, one wast thou with me
That once of old. But shall God lift
To endless unity
The soul whose likeness with thy soul
Was but its love for thee?)

"We two," she said, "will seek the groves
Where the lady Mary is,
With her five handmaidens, whose names
Are five sweet symphonies,
Cecily, Gertrude, Magdalen,
Margaret and Rosalys.

"Circlewise sit they, with bound locks
And foreheads garlanded;
Into the fine cloth white like flame
Weaving the golden thread,
To fashion the birth-robes for them
Who are just born, being dead.

"He shall fear, haply, and be dumb:
Then will I lay my cheek
To his, and tell about our love,
Not once abash'd or weak:
And the dear Mother will approve
My pride, and let me speak.

"Herself shall bring us, hand in hand,
To Him round whom all souls
Kneel, the clear-rang'd unnumber'd heads
Bow'd with their aureoles:
And angels meeting us shall sing
To their citherns and citoles.

"There will I ask of Christ the Lord
Thus much for him and me:—
Only to live as once on earth
With Love,—only to be,
As then awhile, for ever now
Together, I and he."

She gaz'd and listen'd and then said,
Less sad of speech than mild,—
"All this is when he comes." She ceas'd.
The light thrill'd towards her, fill'd
With angels in strong level flight.
Her eyes pray'd, and she smil'd.

(I saw her smile.) But soon their path
Was vague in distant spheres:
And then she cast her arms along
The golden barriers,
And laid her face between her hands,
And wept. (I heard her tears.)

By Dante Gabriel Rosetti

Dulcinea

This next song comes from the musical “Man of La Mancha” in which Don Quixote mistakes a barmaid as his lady and names her "Dulcinea". Carrying a bar rag on his lance as her colours, he then sallies forth to tilt at windmills. This song is also rendered by Johnny Mathis.

I have dreamed thee too long
Never seen thee or touched thee but known thee with all of my heart
Half a prayer, half a song
Thou hast always been with me though we have been always apart

Dulcinea, Dulcinea
I see heaven when I see thee, Dulcinea
And thy name is like a prayer an angel whispers
"Dulcinea"

If I reach out to thee
Do not tremble or shrink from the touch of my hand on thy hair
Let my fingers but see thou art warm and alive
And no phantom to fade in the air

Dulcinea, Dulcinea
I have sought thee, sung thee, dreamed thee, Dulcinea
Now I've found thee and the world shall know thy glory
Dulcinea, Dul-ci-ne-a

Love Sonnets Of William Shakespeare

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:

O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.

Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.

If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
__

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimm'd;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest;

So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
__

When in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf Heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself, and curse my fate,

Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featur'd like him, like him with friends possess'd,
Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least:

Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee,--and then my state
(Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth) sings hymns at heaven's gate;

For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings'.
__

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.

I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.

I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground.

And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.
__

Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme;
But you shall shine more bright in these contents
Than unswept stone, besmear'd with sluttish time.

When wasteful war shall statues overturn,
And broils root out the work of masonry,
Nor Mars his sword nor war's quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.

'Gainst death and all oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room,
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.

So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
You live in this, and dwell in lovers' eyes.
__

Let not my love be called idolatry,
Nor my beloved as an idol show,
Since all alike my songs and praises be
To one, of one, still such, and ever so.

Kind is my love to-day, to-morrow kind,
Still constant in a wondrous excellence;
Therefore my verse to constancy confined,
One thing expressing, leaves out difference.

Fair, kind, and true, is all my argument,
Fair, kind, and true, varying to other words;
And in this change is my invention spent,
Three themes in one, which wondrous scope affords.

Fair, kind, and true, have often lived alone,
Which three till now, never kept seat in one
__

From fairest creatures we desire increase,
That thereby beauty's rose might never die,
But as the riper should by time decease,
His tender heir might bear his memory:

But thou contracted to thine own bright eyes,
Feed'st thy light's flame with self-substantial fuel,
Making a famine where abundance lies,
Thy self thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel:

Thou that art now the world's fresh ornament,
And only herald to the gaudy spring,
Within thine own bud buriest thy content,
And, tender churl, mak'st waste in niggarding:

Pity the world, or else this glutton be,
To eat the world's due, by the grave and thee.
__

Against my love shall be as I am now,
With Time's injurious hand crush'd and o'erworn;
When hours have drain'd his blood and fill'd his brow
With lines and wrinkles; when his youthful morn

Hath travelled on to age's steepy night;
And all those beauties whereof now he's king
Are vanishing, or vanished out of sight,
Stealing away the treasure of his spring;

For such a time do I now fortify
Against confounding age's cruel knife,
That he shall never cut from memory
My sweet love's beauty, though my lover's life:

His beauty shall in these black lines be seen,
And they shall live, and he in them still green.
__

Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore,
So do our minutes hasten to their end,
Each changing place with that which goes before
In sequent toil all forwards do contend.

Nativity, once in the main of light,
Crawls to maturity, wherewith, being crowned,
Crooked eclipses 'gainst his glory fight
And Time that gave, doth now his gift confound.

Time doth transfix the flourish set on youth,
And delves the parallels in beauty's brow,
Feeds on the rarities of natures truth,
And nothing stands but for his scythe to mow;

And yet, to times, in hope, my verse shall stand,
Praising thy worth, despite his cruel hand.
__

When I have seen by Time's fell hand defaced
The rich-proud cost of outworn buried age;
When sometime lofty towers I see down-razed
And brass eternal slave to mortal rage;

When I have seen the hungry ocean gain
Advantage on the kingdom of the shore,
And the firm soil win of the watery main,
Increasing store with loss, and loss with store;

When I have seen such interchange of state,
Or state it self confounded to decay,
Ruin hath taught me thus to ruminate
That Time will come and take my love away.

This thought is as a death which cannot choose
But weep to have that which it fears to lose.

Elephant Love Medley

Well, Elephant Love Medley, need I say more? I enjoyed Moulin Rouge, it was a perfect melodramatic colourful and cute ode to Bollywood movies and Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor were very sweet in this movie. So to all the lovers out there, here’s the beautiful medley.

Ewan:
Love is a many splendored thing
Love lifts us up where we belong
All you need is love

Nicole:
Please don't start that again

Ewan:
All you need is love

Nicole:
A girl has got to eat

Ewan:
All you need is love

Nicole:
She'll end up on the street

Nicole:
Uhh

Ewan:
All you need is love

Nicole:
Love is just a game

Ewan:
I was made for loving you baby
You were made for loving me

Nicole:
The only way of loving me baby
Is to pay a lovely fee

Ewan:
Just one night
Give me just one night

Nicole:
There's no way
Cause you can't pay

Ewan:
In the name of love
One night in the name of love

Nicole:
You crazy fool
I won't give in to you

Ewan:
Don't leave me this way
I can't survive without your sweet love
Oh baby don't leave me this way

Nicole:
You think that people would have enough of silly love songs

Ewan:
I look around me and I see it isn't so, oh no

Nicole:
Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs

Ewan:
Well what's wrong with that
I like to know
Cause here I go again

Ewan:
Love lifts us up where we belong
Where the eagles fly
On a mountain high

Nicole:
Love makes us act like we are fools
Throw our lives away
For one happy day

Ewan:
We can be heroes
Just for one day

Nicole:
You, you will be mean

Ewan:
No I won't

Nicole:
And I, I'll drink all the time

Ewan:
We should be lovers

Nicole:
We can't do that

Ewan:
We should be lovers
And that's a fact

Nicole:
No nothing would keep us together

Ewan:
We could steal time

Ewan & Nicole:
Just for one day
We can be heroes
Forever and ever
We can be heroes
Forever and ever
We can be heroes

Ewan:
Just because I, and I will always love you

Nicole:
I only can't help

Ewan & Nicole:
Loving You

Nicole:
How wonderful life is now

Ewan and Nicole:
You're in the world

The Presence of Love

And in Life's noisiest hour,
There whispers still the ceaseless Love of Thee,
The heart's Self-solace and soliloquy.

You mould my Hopes, you fashion me within;
And to the leading Love-throb in the Heart
Thro' all my Being, thro' my pulse's beat;
You lie in all my many Thoughts, like Light,
Like the fair light of Dawn, or summer Eve
On rippling Stream, or cloud-reflecting Lake.

And looking to the Heaven, that bends above you,
How oft! I bless the Lot that made me love you.
By Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Especially For You

1989 – 1990 made Kylie Minogue a household name with her debut as a singer from a soap actor, her duet with Jason Donovan still holds a special place in my heart. One of the best love songs that I sang many times when I first fell in love…

Especially for you
I wanna let you know what I was going through
All the time we were apart
I thought of you
You were in my heart
My love never changed
I still feel the same

Especially for you
I wanna tell you I was feeling that way too
And if dreams were wings, you know
I would have flown to you
To be where you are
No matter how far
And now that I'm next to you

No more dreaming about tomorrow
Forget the loneliness and the sorrow
I've got to say
It's all because of you

And now we're back together, together
I wanna show you my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is
Especially for you

Especially for you
I wanna tell you, you mean all the world to me
How I'm certain that our love was meant to be
You changed my life
You showed me the way
And now that I'm next to you

I've waited long enough to find you
I wanna put all the hurt behind you
Oh,
And I wanna bring out all the love inside you,
Oh

And now we're back together, together
I wanna show you my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is
Especially for you

You were in my heart
My love never changed

I've waited long enough to find you
I wanna put all the hurt behind you
Oh,
And I wanna bring out all the love inside you,
Oh

And now we're back together, together
I wanna show you my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is
Especially for you

Love's Trinity

Soul, heart, and body, we thus singly name,
Are not in love divisible and distinct,
But each with each inseparably link'd.
One is not honour, and the other shame,
But burn as closely fused as fuel, heat, and flame.

They do not love who give the body and keep
The heart ungiven; nor they who yield the soul,
And guard the body. Love doth give the whole;
Its range being high as heaven, as ocean deep,
Wide as the realms of air or planet's curving sweep.

By Alfred Austin

A Reason To Believe

I had first heard this song as a cover by Wilson Phillips and later discovered it was a Rod Stewart classic! I love this song a lot!

If I listened long enough to you
I'd find a way to believe that it's all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself

If I gave you time to change my mind
I'd find a way just to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

If I listened long enough to you
I'd find a way to believe that it's all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself

She Walks In Beauty

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

By George Gordon, Lord Byron

Killing Me Softly

Roberta Flack sang this song and then Lauryn Hill covered it with The Fugees making it a cult classic. I think this is one of the best love songs I have ever heard!

I heard he sang a good song
I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him
To listen for awhile
And there he was this young boy,
A stranger to my eyes
He was ...

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly, with his song

I felt all flushed with fever
Embarrassed by the crowd
I felt he found my letters
And read each one out loud
I prayed that he would finish
But he just kept right on

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly, with his song

He sang as if he knew me
In all my dark despair
And then he looked right through me
As if I wasn't there
But he was there this stranger
Singing clear and strong
He was...

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song

Madonna of the Evening Flowers

All day long I have been working,
Now I am tired.
I call: “Where are you?”
But there is only the oak tree rustling in the wind.
The house is very quiet,
The sun shines in on your books,
On your scissors and thimble just put down,
But you are not there.
Suddenly I am lonely:
Where are you?
I go about searching.

Then I see you,
Standing under a spire of pale blue larkspur,
With a basket of roses on your arm.
You are cool, like silver,
And you smile.
I think the Canterbury bells are playing little tunes.

You tell me that the peonies need spraying,
That the columbines have overrun all bounds,
That the pyrus japonica should be cut back and rounded.
You tell me these things.
But I look at you, heart of silver,
White heart-flame of polished silver,
Burning beneath the blue steeples of the larkspur,
And I long to kneel instantly at your feet,
While all about us peal the loud, sweet Te Deums of the Canterbury bells.

By Amy Lowell

One Fine Day

We all have one thing at the end of it all. We all have hope! I think this song makes that notion really viable and Carole King has done a wonderful job in writing and singing this next song!

One fine day, you'll look at me
And you will know our love was, meant to be
One fine day, you're gonna want me for your girl

The arms I long for, will open wide
And you'll be proud to have me, right by your side
One fine day, you're gonna want me for your girl

Though I know you're the kind of boy
Who only wants to run around
I'll keep waiting, and, someday darling
You'll come to me when you want to settle down,
Oh!

One fine day, we'll meet once more
And then you'll want the love you threw away before
One fine day, you're gonna want me for your girl

One fine day, you're gonna want me for your girl

I Love Thee

I love thee, as I love the calm
Of sweet, star-lighted hours!
I love thee, as I love the balm
Of early jes'mine flow'rs.

I love thee, as I love the last
Rich smile of fading day,
Which lingereth, like the look we cast,
On rapture pass'd away.

I love thee as I love the tone
Of some soft-breathing flute
Whose soul is wak'd for me alone,
When all beside is mute.

I love thee as I love the first
Young violet of the spring;
Or the pale lily, April-nurs'd,
To scented blossoming.

I love thee, as I love the full,
Clear gushings of the song,
Which lonely—sad—and beautiful—
At night-fall floats along,

Pour'd by the bul-bul forth to greet
The hours of rest and dew;
When melody and moonlight meet
To blend their charm, and hue.

I love thee, as the glad bird loves
The freedom of its wing,
On which delightedly it moves
In wildest wandering.

I love thee as I love the swell,
And hush, of some low strain,
Which bringeth, by its gentle spell,
The past to life again.

Such is the feeling which from thee
Nought earthly can allure:
'Tis ever link'd to all I see
Of gifted—high—and pure!

By Eliza Acton

I Think We're Alone Now

Well, I thought maybe I should go back in time for a bit and share this song I used to sing a lot as a teen. Tiffany, who is now lost in oblivion would always be known for this one song, although it was a cover and I guess no song describes adolescent love more cutely than this one!

Children behave,
That's what they say when we're together,
And watch how you play,
They don't understand,
And so we're,

Running just as fast as we can,
Holdin' onto one another's hand,
Tryin' to get away into the night,
And then you put your arms around me,
And we tumble to the ground,
And then you say,

I think we're alone now,
There does't seem to be anyone around.
I think we're alone now,
The beating of our hearts is the only sound.

Look at the way,
We gotta hide what we're doin'.
'Cause what would they say,
If they ever knew and so we're,

Running just as fast as we can,
Holdin' onto one another's hand,
Tryin' to get away into the night,
And then you put your arms around me,
And we tumble to the ground,
And then you say,

I think we're alone now,
There does't seem to be anyone around.
I think we're alone now,
The beating of our hearts is the only sound.

I think we're alone now,
There does't seem to be anyone around.
I think we're alone now,
The beating of our hearts is the only sound.

Running just as fast as we can,
Holdin' onto one another's hand,
Tryin' to get away into the night,
And then you put your arms around me,
And we tumble to the ground,
And then you say,

I think we're alone now,
There does't seem to be anyone around.
I think we're alone now,
The beating of our hearts is the only sound.

I think we're alone now,
There does't seem to be anyone around.
I think we're alone now,
The beating of our hearts is the only sound.

I think we're alone now,(alone now)
There does't seem to be anyone around.
I think we're alone now,(alone now)
The beating of our hearts is the only sound.

I think we're alone now,(alone now)
There does't seem to be anyone around.
I think we're alone now,(alone now)
The beating of our hearts is the only sound.

I think we're alone now,(alone now)...

The Definition of Love

My love is of a birth as rare
As 'tis for object strange and high;
It was begotten by Despair
Upon Impossibility.

Magnanimous Despair alone
Could show me so divine a thing
Where feeble Hope could ne'er have flown,
But vainly flapp'd its tinsel wing.

And yet I quickly might arrive
Where my extended soul is fixt,
But Fate does iron wedges drive,
And always crowds itself betwixt.

For Fate with jealous eye does see
Two perfect loves, nor lets them close;
Their union would her ruin be,
And her tyrannic pow'r depose.

And therefore her decrees of steel
Us as the distant poles have plac'd,
(Though love's whole world on us doth wheel)
Not by themselves to be embrac'd;

Unless the giddy heaven fall,
And earth some new convulsion tear;
And, us to join, the world should all
Be cramp'd into a planisphere.

As lines, so loves oblique may well
Themselves in every angle greet;
But ours so truly parallel,
Though infinite, can never meet.

Therefore the love which us doth bind,
But Fate so enviously debars,
Is the conjunction of the mind,
And opposition of the stars.

Chances Are

I heard this song on Hope Floats Soundtrack quite beautifully rendered by Bob Seger and Martina McBride. Later, it was immortalized in my mind in what I consider one of the best covers by Robert Downing Jr and Vonda Shepard. Here’s to Chances!

Chances are you'll find me
Somewhere on your road tonight
Seems I always end up driving by
Ever since I've known you
It just seems you're on my way
All the rules of logic don't apply

I long to see you in the night
Be with you 'til morning light

I remember clearly how you looked
The night we met
I recall your laughter and your smile
I remember how you made me
Feel so at ease
I remember all your grace, your style

And now you're all I long to see
You've come to mean so much to me

Chances are I'll see you
Somewhere in my dreams tonight
You'll be smiling like the night we met
Chances are I'll hold you and I'll offer
All I have

You're the only one I can't forget
Baby you're the best, I've ever met

And I'll be dreaming of the future
And hoping you'll be by my side
And in the morning I'll be longing
For the night, for the night

Chances are I'll see you
Somewhere in my dreams tonight
You'll be smiling like the night we met
Chances are I'll hold you and I'll offer
All I have

You're the only one I can't forget
Baby you're the best I've ever met

He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

The Glory Of Love!

I have heard numerous individuals talk about NOT seeing Beaches, sappy story of friendship! Well, I have seen it more times than my mind can actually register. I think the soundtrack is awesome and this next song rendered by Bette Midler for the movie is one of the best ways love is illustrated.

You gotta give a little,
Take a little,
And let your poor heart break a little.
That's the story of,
That's the glory of love!

You gotta laugh a little,
Cry a little,
Until the clouds roll by a little
That's the story of,
That’s the glory of love!

As long as there's the two of us,
We've got the world and all its charms!
And when the world is through with us,
We've got each other's arms!

You gotta win a little,
Lose a little,
Yes and always have the blues a little!
That's the story of,
That's the glory of love!
That's the story of,
That's the glory of love!

Beautiful Dreamer

Beautiful dreamer, wake unto me,
Starlight and dewdrops are waiting for thee;
Sounds of the rude world heard in the day,
Lull'd by the moonlight have all pass'd away!

Beautiful dreamer, queen of my song,
List while I woo thee with soft melody;
Gone are the cares of life's busy throng.

Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!
Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Beautiful dreamer, out on the sea,
Mermaids are chaunting the wild lorelie;
Over the streamlet vapors are borne,
Waiting to fade at the bright coming morn.

Beautiful dreamer, beam on my heart,
E'en as the morn on the streamlet and sea;
Then will all clouds of sorrow depart,

Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

By Stephen Foster

Somewhere Out There

I believe that every individual has a soul-mate; each soul-mate comes around when one is truly ready to receive him or her. There is hope even if one feels that everything is lost. In any case, this next song comes from the animated movie, An American Tail! Performed by James Ingram and Linda Ronstadt, this is one of the many beautiful songs dealing with knowing that one always has someone loving you even if you are not consciously aware of it!

Somewhere out there,
Beneath the pale blue night,
Someone's thinking of me,
And loving me tonight.

Somewhere out there,
Someone's saying a prayer,
Then we'll find one another,
In that big somewhere out there.

And even though I know how very far apart we are,
It helps to think we might be wishing
On the same bright star,

And when the night will start to sing
A lonesome lullaby,
It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the
Same big sky.

Somewhere out there,
If love can see us through,
Then, we'll be together,
Somewhere out there, out where dreams, come true.

Bright Star, Would I Were Steadfast as Thou Art

Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art—
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night,
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature's patient sleepless eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth's human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors;
No—yet still steadfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow'd upon my fair love's ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever—or else swoon to death.

(They Long To Be) Close To You

One song that I absolutely enjoy crooning is The Carpenters’ greatest hit! I think this is one song that makes anyone feel really special!

Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you

Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you

On the day that you were born, the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon-dust in you hair
And golden starlight in your eyes of blue

That is why, all the girls (boys) in town
Follow you, all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you

On the day that you were born, the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon-dust in you hair
And golden starlight in your eyes of blue

That is why, all the girls (boys) in town
Follow you, all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you
Wa-ah-ah-ah-ah
Close to you
Wa-ah-ah-ah-ah
Close to you

22

I gave myself to him,
And took himself for pay.
The solemn contract of a life
Was ratified this way

The value might disappoint,
Myself a poorer prove
Than this my purchaser suspect,
The daily own of Love

Depreciates the sight;
But, 'til the merchant buy,
Still fabled, in the isles of spice
The subtle cargoes lie.

At least, 'tis mutual risk,—
Some found it mutual gain;
Sweet debt of Life,—each night to owe,
Insolvent, every noon.

Comin' Around Again (Itsy Bitsy Spider)

One of the best and creative medleys came from Carly Simon, one of the best song writers and great singers. I had first heard this song on a figure skating competition on television, while surfing the channels!

It took me ages to get my hands on the CD and it is one of my favourite songs as it deals with getting back on your feet after your heart gets broken. And to use a nursery rhyme to supplement the message in simplicity is ingenious.

Here’s a tribute to a song writer who sees clouds in her coffee…

Baby sneezes
Mommy pleases
Daddy breezes in
So good on paper
So romantic
So bewildering

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It's comin' around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
There's more room in a broken heart (broken heart)

Pay the grocer
You fix the toaster
You kiss the host goodbye
Then you break a window
Burn the soufflé
Scream the lullaby

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It's comin' around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
There's more room in a broken heart

And I believe in love
But what else can I do
So in love with you

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It's comin' around again

(Baby sneezes)
(Mommy pleases)
(Daddy breezes in)
I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It will be comin' around again

(The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout)
(Down come the rain and washed the spider out)
(Out come the sun and dried up all the rain)
(And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again)

(The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout)
(Down come the rain and washed the spider out)
(Out come the sun and dried up all the rain)
(And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again)

I believe in love
Now who knows where or when?
But it's comin' around again

(The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout)
(Down come the rain and washed the spider out)
(Out come the sun and dried up all the rain)
(And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again)

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willin' to play the game
It's comin' around again

(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout) (Comin' around again)
(Down come the rain and washed the spider out) (Down the rain came)
(Out come the sun and dried up all the rain)
(And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again)

(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider)
(Itsy bitsy spider) (Again)

Evening Song

Look off, dear Love, across the sallow sands,
And mark yon meeting of the sun and sea;
How long they kiss in sight of all the lands,
Ah! longer, longer we.

Now, in the sea's red vintage melts the sun
As Egypt's pearl dissolved in rosy wine
And Cleopatra night drinks all. 'Tis done,
Love, lay thine hand in mine.

Come forth, sweet stars, and comfort heaven's heart,
Glimmer, ye waves, 'round else unlighted sands;
Oh night! divorce our sun and sky apart
Never our lips, our hands.

By Sidney Lanier

At Last

I don’t think I need to type an introduction to this song, I think the song says it all and more, rendered by Etta James, and covered by many others, this is one of the best love anthems ever!

At last
My love has come along
My lonely days over
And life is like a song

Ooh At last
The skies above are blue
Well my heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you

I found a dream
That I could speak to
A dream that I could call my own
I found a thrill
To press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Well

You smile
You smile
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine at last

I found a dream
That I could speak to
A dream that I
Could call my own
I found a thrill
To press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Well

You smile
You smile
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine at last

Ooh yea
You are mine
You are mine
At last
At last
At last
At last

First Love

I ne'er was struck before that hour
With love so sudden and so sweet.
Her face it bloomed like a sweet flower
And stole my heart away complete.

My face turned pale, a deadly pale.
My legs refused to walk away,
And when she looked what could I ail
My life and all seemed turned to clay.

And then my blood rushed to my face
And took my eyesight quite away.
The trees and bushes round the place
Seemed midnight at noonday.

I could not see a single thing,
Words from my eyes did start.
They spoke as chords do from the string,
And blood burnt round my heart.

Are flowers the winter's choice
Is love's bed always snow
She seemed to hear my silent voice
Not love appeals to know.

I never saw so sweet a face
As that I stood before.
My heart has left its dwelling place
And can return no more.

By John Clare

You Were Always On My Mind

When you are in love, there are times when you forget telling your beloved how much you love them and as time tells a tale, you would realize that you started taking them for granted. But taking someone for granted does not mean that the love is lost.

This second song, which is one of my favourite Willie Nelson songs, captures the theme beautifully.

Maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have
Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Maybe I didn't hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
And I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine

If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm so sorry I was blind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me, give me one more chance to keep you satisfied, satisfied

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Life in a Love

Escape me?
Never—
Beloved!
While I am I, and you are you,
So long as the world contains us both,
Me the loving and you the loth,
While the one eludes, must the other pursue.
My life is a fault at last, I fear:
It seems too much like a fate, indeed!
Though I do my best I shall scarce succeed.
But what if I fail of my purpose here?
It is but to keep the nerves at strain,
To dry one's eyes and laugh at a fall,
And baffled, get up to begin again,—
So the chase takes up one's life, that's all.
While, look but once from your farthest bound,
At me so deep in the dust and dark,
No sooner the old hope drops to ground
Than a new one, straight to the selfsame mark,
I shape me—
Ever
Removed!

By Robert Browning

Evergreen

February, a month dedicated to love and people in love!

This month I decided to post lyrics of my favourite love songs!

I start this series with one of the most beautiful songs ever written about love!

Written, composed and rendered by Barbra Streisand for the movie, “A Star is Born”, earned Barbra an Academy Award for the same!

Cheers to love and lovers!

Love soft as an easy chair
Love fresh as the morning air
One love that is shared by two
I have found with you

Like a rose under the April snow
I was always certain love would grow
Love ageless and evergreen
Seldom seen by two

You and I will make each night a first
Every day a beginning
Spirits rise and their dance is unrehearsed
They warm and excite us, cause we have the brightest love

Two lives that shine as one
Morning glory and midnight sun
Time we’ve learned to sail above
Time won’t change the meaning of one love
Ageless and ever evergreen
